The American War on Terror: Worth it?

So far the Middle East was has been the longest war in American history. Many famous Neo-conservatives such as Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck (just to name a few) believe that we can win the "war on terror," but is this even possible? Here, I'll say why the War on Terror is unwinnable.

So we have the supplies, we have the resources, we have the manpower, we have the allies, it would make sense that we should win in Afghanistan, right? Unfortunatly, no. The "terrortists" will always have constant ways to receive their funding, whether from rural warlords, corrupt government officials, or through terrorist sympathisers. Also, in terms of supplies, there is never a shortage of supplies as they branch out over the internet and buy weapons from Chinese and Russian black markets.

Here is why the War on Terror is unwinnable: If we were to miraculously move our troops out and somehow establish a "democracy" in Afghanistan, then the terrorists would be voted in by their own people and continue their mission "democratically." Even if American or NATO officials were installed, they would become corrupted by the infinite opportunities to make a quick dollar (as we've seen already). The only way to get uninvolved is to bring our troops home and just leave Afghanistan alone. Now, while many may agree and disagree but others may find this to be the only cold truth. I mean, what else can we do? We can't blow up the mountains, we can't scorch the land, we can't just go on killing rampages. Not only would this receive global attention, but it is the unethical thing to do. With the guerrilla warfare being used against a formal, well organized military, it is hard to win; the terrain isn't helping. Also, America and it's allies are running deficits and protests run high tensions, while terror groups just move to another classified location and spread their ideologies. Therefore, the only logical way to combat this is by securing various country's borders, having more efficient security, and running background checks, as well as educating the masses that these are radical groups with a purpose, not a gang of mischievous rich people playing jokes. Steps should also be taken in reducing the hate targeted towards innocent Muslims globally. Just recently in Florida there was a Koran burning festival and that made me sick. No religion, ethnic group, or culture should be mistreated as a casualty of confusion, anger, and war.

There are now and always have been radical fundamentalists in almost every religion.

The military industrial complex does not want war to end.It means that they would not make money producing weapons that continue to need to be replaced as a consequence of war activities.

On the other side is the American taxpayer who cannot afford to continue to pay for this bottomless pit of military expendature.

i've had a close friend in Iraq blownup and it has been hard for his family ever since. This war is senseless and not worth it. What have we gained? Just because we are a superpower doesn't mean we can always win. I hope our nation realizes this soon..

Better fact check before posting. Koran burning is this Saturday (9//11). P.S. If you are really fed up try serving. I am vet of the current wars. The number one reason we are losing is media on battlefield. We are handcuffed by our own rules of engagement, while the media reports everything we do, perceived as wrong, and our "enemy" plays by no rules. This "war" on terror would be over in two weeks if Americans really wanted to make the sacrifice and turn our backs on the Geneva Convention so we could fight them the way they fight us, with impunity, the way we won our independence here. But at the same time we most hold ourselves to higher standards of morality and humanity.

i have to disagree with the koran burning. Regardless of religion it is disgraceful, immoral, and just plain revolting for someone to burn someone else's holy book. Please think twice before doing something that could alter history for the worse.
